Session II : Exploring Dynamics and Bifurcations of Systems

Workshop Overview

In this workshop, I will engage in an exploration of dynamical systems and their bifurcations. I will begin with a concise introduction to the concept of dynamical systems, providing you with a foundation to understand how systems evolve and change over time. I will then delve deeper into the intriguing realm of bifurcations, exploring how small changes in system parameters can lead to drastic shifts in behaviour.

Why XPPAUT

Our toolkit for this exploration is XPPAUT, a powerful yet user-friendly software for nonlinear dynamics. Despite its age, XPPAUT remains an indispensable tool, known for its versatility and compatibility with a wide range of computing platforms. Best of all, it’s freely available. You’ll witness first-hand how this software simplifies the complex process of bifurcation analysis.

Real-World Application

Theoretical concepts are best understood when applied to real-world problems. To make the material more relatable, I will demonstrate how bifurcation analysis is used to solve simple real-world problems. You’ll see how this tool can unveil the hidden dynamics of complex systems, providing valuable insights and practical solutions.

Optical Fibre and Beyond

In the final segment of the workshop, I will showcase the practical application of bifurcation analysis in an exciting domain—optical fibre. You’ll witness how bifurcation analysis can push the boundaries of technology and enable us to achieve remarkable advancements.
