8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (IST)
Session I ( Hybrid )
It is widely believed that quantum computers have the strength to solve several complex problems that could not be tackled efficiently on classical computers. With the recent developments, there is a growing interest in quantum computing among the scholarly community and the industry.
While the Governments of developed countries are making major investments in quantum technology, several developing countries are also funding academic research in the field, and a growing interest and awareness can be found almost everywhere in the world, getting prepared for a wave of quantum technologies.
Is Sri Lanka ready to take up the quantum challenge?
In fact, several Sri Lankan researchers have been working on quantum computing for more than a decade. Also, it has found its entry into the curriculum of the Computational Mathematics Hons program of University of Colombo.
Further, two conference sessions on quantum computing have taken place in Colombo in 2017 and 2021.
Colombo Quantum Computing Meetup 2024 is an event where the quantum computing community in Sri Lanka would meet on site and share their research findings and discuss future directions. Researchers from four Sri Lankan state universities are contributing to this event, and industry representatives are discussing the use cases in the industry, focusing on the potential of speeding up the solutions to large scale problems with quantum effects.
